At 16:25 hrs on Monday April 20, 2015 east end crews were dispatched to a residential dwelling at 3356 Brimley Road for a reported explosion and structural collapse. First in companies arrived to discover the house had been obliterated with heavy debris strewn across the neighbourhood. A natural gas odour could be smelled and crews worked to isolate utilities. Firefighters found one occupant of the house that was fatally injured in the blast. Numerous specialized personnel were called to the scene including Trench Rescue support, several Air and Light companies, and Toronto Police CBRNE and K9 HUSAR units.
Support 7 canteen was paged at 17:49 to assist with rehab and remained on scene well into the evening.
The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating.
