It is with deep regret that the Greater Toronto Multiple Alarm Association, operator of Support 7 canteen, announces the passing of Life Member Charlie Croft. Charlie passed away peacefully at Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital early Thursday, December 26, 2013 in his 86th year.
Charlie first joined our club in March 1979. The sight of Charlie on the fireground became commonplace in Scarborough as he responded faithfully with the fire canteen for over 30 years. In addition to his membership with the GTMAA he was also a member of the Scarborough Fire Fighter Retirees Club where he proudly served as a member of the Honour Guard.
Not only was Charlie interested in fire scenes to meet his friends on the job, but Charlie also enjoyed a wealth of activites in his personal life including yoga, tai chi, square dancing, table tennis, church, bridge, and traveling. As a lifelong resident of the Beaches, Charlie spent many years as a Block Captain with the local Neighborhood Watch program.
Charlie attended Malvern Collegiate in his youth, later working for the Confederation Life Insurance Company where he retired as purchasing manager. He is predeceased by his wife, Pat, his childhood sweethart with whom he was happily married for close to six decades.
Charlie was interred at St. John’s Norway Cemetery (256 Kingston Road). He will be deeply missed by the members of our association, and by his countless friends on the department whom he served.
