Last Alarm – Neil McCarten

September 7, 1941 – March 3, 2014

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of active member Neil McCarten.

Neil McEwen McCarten was born on September 7, 1941 at 87 Bowmore Road where he lived all 72 years of his life. He was the younger son of Robert and Evelyn McCarten. His older brother, Ian, predeceased Neil in August of 1975. Growing up Neil attended Bowmore Road Public School and Danforth Tech. In September 1975, Neil married Ruth LePage and they shared 38 years together. During that time both Ruth and Neil travelled to Europe, Cuba and various cities in the United States to attend railway or fire buffing events. Neil retired from the Toronto Transit Commission in 1992 with 30 years of service. Neil was Member #92 of the Greater Toronto Multiple Alarm Association. He was also a member of the Ontario Electric Railway Historical Association (Halton County Radial Railway), the Ontario Fire Buff Associates (OFBA) and the Toronto Transportation Society. He was an avid photographer of fire apparatus, trains and all things related to transportation. Neil will be missed by all the members of the Greater Toronto Multiple Alarm Association and the fire buffing community.
