Last Alarm – Bob Connell

November 15, 1951 – December 9, 2014

On Tuesday, December 9, 2014 we lost one of the real nice guys in this world with the passing of Bob Connell. He was a good husband of 40 years, father, friend to all he met and was always ready with a story or joke to put a smile on your face. Bob was born in Leaside on November 15, 1951 and resided there all his life. He attended Leaside Public and High School. Bob also went to Centennial College. He was a former Naval reservist, a long time member of GTMAA, baseball coach, model railroader and rail fan. Bob (Bongo, as he was called by the firefighters) Connell operated the East York Fire Department Canteen from 1992 until just after amalgamation in January 1998. Bob operated out of the rear of his 1989 Buick station wagon, fondly known as the “Wally Wagon” with the supplies paid for by the East York Firefighters Association. Between East York FD and GTMAA, Bob volunteered for over 24 years giving back to the firefighters he loved so much. Bob was given a great sendoff from Northlea United Church on Monday, December 15, 2014 with a Piper and an Honour Guard of Firefighters, Military and members of Support 7.

Rest in Peace Bob.
