J. Frederic (Fred) Calder, born in Glace Bay Nova Scotia, came from a long-standing family of firefighters. Therefore, it came as no surprise when Fred followed in their footsteps in 1963 and joined the ranks of the Toronto Fire Department. He was initially assigned to Pumper No. 34 on Yonge Street.
Fred was an extremely skilled builder of scale models, and amassed a huge collection of fire apparatus miniatures which he assembled in his spare time. In addition to his membership in the GTMAA, Fred was also an active member of the OFBA where he served as an Executive Officer. His contributions to the fire buffing community and to the preservation of the OFBA’s ex-T.F.D High Pressure Number 2 will long be remembered and appreciated.
